Delgado Community College (Jefferson Campus): Face-To-Face Classes To Resume At Delgado Community College This Fall

The faculty and staff of Delgado Community College have returned to campus as a result
of the easing of public health restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Delgado is now open, our offices are fully staffed, and our faculty is ready to teach
students face-to-face this fall—in addition to offering the convenience of online
and virtual classes,” said Larissa Littleton-Steib, Delgado chancellor. “The past
16 months have been difficult for many students and potential students who are more
comfortable in the traditional on-campus environment,” Steib said. “We would like
everyone to know that Delgado welcomes you back to campus for the fall semester.”

Registration for fall semester classes at Delgado is now underway, and classes begin
August 14. There is ample time to apply—which is free—and to enroll, submit financial
aid and scholarship applications, and register for classes. Enrollment begins with
a visit to the Delgado website, www.dcc.edu, or by contacting the Admissions Office at delgadoadmissions@dcc.edu, 504-671-5012 or 1-855-215-8247.

Those who are not legal residents of Louisiana pay the same low tuition as local residents—just
over $2,000 per semester for a full-time, 12-credit-hour load ($170 per credit hour).
Delgado’s tuition and fees (see chart here) are the lowest of any SACSCOC accredited higher education institution in the New
Orleans region.

This makes a Delgado education more affordable for everyone living in the New Orleans
area, permanently or temporarily, or those who live in nearby Mississippi and other
states and want to study at Delgado in person or online. Delgado credits are transferable
to four-year institutions in Louisiana and other states. The college’s career certifications
are also recognized statewide and outside the borders of Louisiana.

To make enrollment at Delgado even more affordable, the college will provide a 15
percent discount on tuition to any student registering on the City Park Campus during
special registration events scheduled on July 10 and 14. The mascot of the New Orleans
Pelicans, Pierre T. Pelican, will attend the July 10 event, contributing to the festive
atmosphere that will welcome students back to campus post-pandemic.

For those who would like to enroll for online classes but do not have access to a
computer at home, Delgado’s laptop computer loaner program has been expanded so that
more students who need computers for their studies can get free access to them.

Other benefits such as free on-campus parking for everyone help to make educational
opportunities at Delgado more affordable.

“Delgado Community College recognizes that many students continue to be concerned
about their health and safety as the COVID-19 pandemic wanes,” said Steib. “We urge
them to get the free vaccination as soon as possible, and to continue practicing safe
social interaction and taking the basic precautions of washing hands frequently and
wearing face coverings—for an extra measure of protection from the coronavirus,” she
said.

“Through this pandemic, the focus has always been for Delgado to adapt as needed to
safeguard the health of our students, faculty and staff, while simultaneously ensuring
operational continuity for our programs and services,” Steib said. “We ask that everyone
continue to use our daily COVID-19 health check online, and to get tested for the virus,” she said.

Delgado offers instruction online and at seven locations, including the City Park,
West Bank (Algiers), Sidney Collier, Charity School of Nursing and Maritime and Industrial
Training Center locations in New Orleans, the River City Site in Avondale and the
Jefferson Site in Metairie.

Founded in 1921, Delgado is the oldest and largest community college in Louisiana.
As well as offering associate degrees and transferable college credits, Delgado provides
diplomas and certifications in dozens of professional and technical areas. Some of
Delgado’s largest programs are nursing, allied health, business and management, computer
information technology, culinary arts, teaching grades 1-5 and motor vehicle technology.

Delgado Community College celebrates 100 years of service to the New Orleans region in 2021-22. The oldest
