Kenner Hammer Attack: 89-year-old Man Dies

Criminal charges against the 16-year-old boy accused of beating Phillip Lynch and his wife could be upgraded pending results of an autopsy.

KENNER, LA — A man attacked by a hammer at his Kenner home last month has died, police in Louisiana said.

Phillip Lynch, 89, died Thursday, Police Chief Michael Glaser said in a statement, and criminal charges might be upgraded against the 16-year-old boy accused of beating Lynch and his wife, pending the results of an autopsy.

Lynch's next-door neighbor on Teton Street called 911 on July 10 reporting that Lynch was covered in blood and asking for help, police said. The neighbor gave investigators the teenager's name.
