Louisiana Fugitive Flags Down Deputy, Gets Arrested

Jansen Simon told authorities he was traveling with friends, but they abandoned him on the side of the road.

RACELAND, LA — A fugitive who has evaded authorities for four years flagged down a deputy on a highway near New Orleans and was subsequently arrested.

Jansen Simon, 30, of Cut Off, Louisiana, was walking Sunday on Louisiana Highway 182 in Raceland when he waved down the deputy, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said in a Monday release. Simon said he was traveling with friends, but they abandoned him on the side of the road.

The officer verified Simon's identity and then detained him, news outlets reported. In 2013, Simon hit another man with a hammer during a dispute outside a bar, authorities said. The man suffered a fractured skull.
