2020 National American Miss Maryland Pre-Teen Spokesmodel Winner
Miss Malinda "Eryn" Barnes, age 12, named as the 2020 National American Miss Maryland Pre- Teen Spokesmodel Winner

The 2020 National American Miss (NAM) Maryland Pre-Teen Pageant was held this past weekend at the lovely Hyatt Regency hotel in Reston, Virginia. Girls from across the great state of Maryland competed for the 2020 National American Miss Maryland Pre-Teen crown and prize package. The contestants were judged in four categories: Formal Wear, Personal Introduction, Interview, and Community Service; as well as optional contests such as Talent, Spokesmodel, Actress, Art and others.
Miss Barnes did not capture the crown and title as the NAM Maryland Pre-Teen Queen, but she represented Bowie well, and is the 2020 National American Miss Pre-Teen Maryland Spokesmodel Winner. She delivered a dynamic speech on her birth defect, Esophageal Atresia. Esophageal Atresia is a rare birth defect that causes the esophagus to end in a blind pouch and prevents normal swallowing. This condition effects 1 in every 4,000 births, and children with this condition require surgery to survive.
In addition, Miss Barnes won the Art competition, the Best “Thank You” competition, and earned the Outstanding Program Participant and the Spirit of America awards. Miss Barnes was also invited to compete in the All-American Miss Pageant and National Spokesmodel competition in Orlando, Florida. Miss Barnes is excited about going to Orlando Florida to compete on the National level, and looks forward to having another opportunity to educate the public about Esophageal Atresia. In fact, she loves talking about the condition, which impacts her personally, because she believes it will help to improve medical care for all children who have it.
