4.5M Pounds Of Food, 1.3M Meals Distributed In Prince George's

Prince George's County has distributed 1.3 million meals, or 4.5 million pounds of food, to residents in need over the past year.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Prince George's County on June 21 celebrated the one-year anniversary of its food assistance initiative, Stand Up & Deliver. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks marked the occasion with a meal distribution at Iverson Mall in Hillcrest Heights. She was joined by:

  • The Prince George’s County Council
  • Rosie Allen-Herring, president and CEO of United Way National Capital Area
  • Rev. Tony Lee, pastor of Community of Hope AME
  • Nonprofit and food partners

"We put our head and hearts together to serve one another," Alsobrooks said in a video. "Our story is one of grit, determination and love. Prince Georgians are proud to care, and I am so proud of you."

Stand Up & Deliver debuted during the coronavirus pandemic, which forced more than 90,000 county residents out of work. Since launching in May 2020, the effort has distributed more than 1.3 million meals, or 4.5 million pounds of food, to residents in need.

The operation now partners with 21 nonprofits and has 23 distribution locations. Alsobrooks confirmed that this weekly assistance will continue through at least January 2022.
