A Thank You From Derrick Davis

The presumptive County Council member for District 6, Davis says thanks to the voters.

Derrick L. Davis, the presumptive County Council member for District 6, has issued a note of thanks to local residents for voting for him during the Sept. 20 primary election.

Davis, who picked up key endorsements from County Executive Rushern Baker and The Washington Post, still has to win next month's general election before he is elected to the seat. However, District 6 is largely Democratic and the Republican challenger picked up only 76 votes in the primary.

A thank you note follows:

Dear Friends, First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents in District 6 who did all that they did to help our campaign win the Primary Election on Tuesday, September 20. What we achieved was not a solo project. This -- and I cannot stress this enough -- was a community effort and I thank all citizens of Prince George's County for deciding to be part of that community.

While our internal numbers the night of the election looked very strong, the Prince George's County Board of Elections released the final totals with all of the precincts reporting. I am very happy to report that we won with an impressive 54% of the vote in a crowded field of 15 candidates.

I share this victory with you and each one of my campaign supporters and with all Prince George's taxpayers who think it's time to come together to secure our future economic development and provide the education our children deserve.

My primary opponents, Arthur Turner, Mark Polk and others ran a good race and I hope that they and their supporters will join together with us, moving forward, to renew District 6 as truly ONE COMMUNITY.

I would be remiss to assume that beating Day Gardner, an entrenched opponent, is going to be an easy task and therefore need your continued support.

If you have not done so already, please sign up to volunteer by clicking on the "Volunteer" button below. There are so many fun campaign activities that I hope you join me in: putting up lawn signs, handing out literature at community events and simply making phone call and knocking on doors to tell residents about our campaign. If you haven't already, be sure to hit the "Like" button on our Facebook page, and the "Follow" button on our Twitter feed!

Once again, thank you for all that you did over the past five months to help us win this very important Primary Election. It's been a long journey and we're nearing the home stretch. Let's forge ahead and onward to victory on October 18!

Lifting as we climb,
DERRICK LEON DAVIS
