BALTIMORE, MD — Former Bowie Baysox public address announcer Adrienne Roberson will now serve as the voice of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The O's announced her promotion Friday.

Roberson will be the first female master of ceremonies in Orioles history. She has spent the last 17 years behind the mic with the Baysox.

Hours before opening day on April 8, the O's told former emcee Ryan Wagner that he wouldn't work the game, The Athletic reported. Journalist Dan Connolly added that the Orioles fired Wagner the next day.

Wagner joined the team in 2012. He replaced Dave McGowan, who had held the position since 1997.

Roberson filled Wagner's vacancy, serving as the master of ceremonies during the Orioles' first and only homestand this year.

The Athletic pointed to Wagner's social media as a potential cause for his dismissal. In the weeks before the season, Wagner condemned a Georgia voter's ID law and said he missed having fans at the ballpark.

Baltimore did not allow fan attendance last year, given the coronavirus pandemic. The Orioles can now host about 11,000 people, which is a quarter of the stadium's capacity.

The Orioles return to Baltimore Friday for a seven-game homestand against the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees. The 8-10 O's hold third place in the American League East.

The Baysox start their season May 4 with a road game against the Altoona Curve. Bowie's home opener is May 11 versus the Reading Fightin Phils.

The Orioles' AA minor league affiliate has not yet announced who will succeed Roberson.
