BOWIE, MD — The Bowie Baysox have their first home game Tuesday. The minor league baseball team will start the season at 25 to 30 percent capacity.

Prince George's Stadium holds 10,000 people. That means crowds will be capped at 2,500 to 3,000 fans.

"As we continue to focus on boosting the local economy, reopenings like this will help move us in the right direction," Mayor Pro Tem Adrian Boafo said in a press release. "I hope that our citizens in Bowie will continue to get vaccinated and do their part to slow the spread."

Distancing will be observed everywhere possible. The kids' bounce house is closed for now. The carousel will limit the number of riders on each trip. Workers will sanitize the speed pitch and Wiffle ball games after every guest.

Suites, birthday areas and the Bud Light Picnic Pavilion will open the season at half capacity.

Guests are allowed to bring one large clear plastic bag and one small clutch purse. The bigger bag must be 12 inches by 6 inches or smaller. More information on the bag policy is posted here.

Tickets And Promotions

Fans cannot buy more than six tickets per game. Groups will sit together, spaced out from their neighbors.

Bowie will release tickets on a homestand-by-homestand basis. It will start selling tickets for the next homestand the day after the current homestand ends. Tickets are currently available for every home game in May, however.

This will let the team be flexible and adjust quickly as the coronavirus situation changes in Prince George's County. The Baysox will also use this staggered plan to announce its promotional events.

Tickets are available at milb.com/bowie/tickets/single-game-tickets. Bowie encourages fans to print their tickets at home or use mobile ticketing to allow for touchless entry.

Traditional tickets are available at the box office, which is reachable at (301) 464-4865. Groups can also call this number or visit this link if they need accommodations for larger gatherings.

Home Opener

The Baysox kicked off their season in Pennsylvania last Tuesday with a 2-1 win over the Altoona Curve. After five games against Altoona, the squad returns to Bowie with a 3-2 record. That's good for fourth place in Baysox's six-team division.

The Baltimore Orioles AA affiliate will take on the Reading Fightin Phils for six straight games. Tuesday's home opener starts at 6:35 p.m.

Bowie vocalist Tamara Jade will sing the national anthem. Jade was on "The Voice" last fall. She made it to the semifinals of the NBC singing competition.

"Opening night with the Bowie Baysox is a time to gather with friends and family," Boafo added in the release. "I look forward to doing that safely on Tuesday."
