Bowie Mayor Will Run For MD Comptroller
Bowie Mayor Tim Adams announced that he will run for state comptroller. He would be the first Black Marylander to ever hold the office.

BOWIE, MD — Bowie Mayor Tim Adams announced on March 30 that he will run to be Maryland's next comptroller. This official manages the state's finances. Adams would be the first Black resident to hold the office, and he would also be the first Marylander who is paralyzed to win an elected position, the Baltimore Sun reported.
The Election
The Democratic mayor took office in November of 2019. His term would finish in November of 2023, but the comptroller election is in November of 2022. This would force Adams to end his mayoral term a year early.
Adams currently has one opponent in the comptroller race, Del. Brooke Lierman (D) of Baltimore, the Sun added. The winner will replace current Comptroller Peter Franchot (D), who is running for governor in 2022.

Adams' Background
The Bowie mayor announced his candidacy in a Facebook video. Adams explained that he escaped violence in Louisiana to start his own defense business called Systems Applications & Technologies. The entrepreneur believes this reflects his fiscal responsibility.

Adams went on to become the first Black mayor in Bowie history. He was eventually paralyzed in an accident, but Adams asserted that doesn't stop him.
"I may be in a wheelchair, but nobody pushes me around," Adams said in the video. "I might not be able to walk, but that's never stopped me from running."
