Coronavirus Vaccine: New Age Group Eligible In Prince George's

Prince George's County will now vaccinate slightly younger residents. Here's everybody who can get the shot.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Residents age 60 and up are now eligible for the coronavirus vaccine at clinics operated by the Prince George's County Health Department. With the expansion, the county is now in phase 2A of its immunization rollout.

County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced the expansion Tuesday, hours after Maryland opened state and private clinics to residents in stage 2A.

"Please continue to do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, staying six feet apart from others, and pre-registering for your COVID-19 vaccine appointment," Alsobrooks said in a newsletter. "The sooner we can get most of our residents vaccinated, the sooner we can defeat this pandemic once and for all."

Alsobrooks explained that the move was possible thanks to a larger immunization shipment from the Maryland Department of Health. Hogan added that allocations from the federal government should grow even more next week, creating a faster shot rollout. This will help Prince George's County, which still has the lowest vaccination rate in Maryland.

Though 60-year-olds are now eligible, earlier priority groups will still take precedence. That means residents in stages 1A, 1B and 1C may get appointments sooner than those in phase 2A.

"We still continue to prioritize seniors in Phase 1 who have not been vaccinated yet," Alsobrooks added. "I’m also pleased to say that given the increase in vaccine supply, those in Phase 2A and later vaccine distribution phases will not have to wait as long for their vaccine."

The county executive directed everybody who lives or works in Prince Gorge's, regardless of what stage they are in, to preregister for the inoculation at this link. Health officials will reach out to respondents when a shot is available for them at a county clinic. Vaccinators will not accept walk-in patients.

Prince Georgians will have the best chance of finding an immunization quickly if they also sign up with these state and private providers.
