Detours, Delays Anticipated With Bowie Road Projects

The City of Bowie is planning a few road projects in May that could cause detours and delays due to road closures.

BOWIE, MD – Motorists in Bowie should be aware of a few construction projects beginning this month that could cause commuting delays. The projects affect Beaverdale Lane, Belair Drive, Beechtree Lane, Kenhill Drive, Stonybrook Drive, Quill Point Drive, Fletchertown Road, Quarterhorse Drive and Fletchertown Road.

The city will be installing what’s called traffic calming measures on Beaverdale Lane and Belair Drive to help reduce motorists’ speed and attempt to discourage cut-through traffic from MD 450 and MD 3. Three speed bumps will be installed on Beaverdale Lake. Speed cushions, raised crosswalks and stop signs will be erected along Belair Drive between Beechtree Lane and Kenhill Drive, and at Stonybrook Drive. This project will be done in two phases; the second phase will implement measures from Kenhill Drive to Annapolis Road and is still in the planning stages.

The city intends to rebuild brick paver intersections at two locations in Northridge. Between May 20 and June 7, construction will occur on Quill Point Drive at Fletchertown Road. Construction will be done on Quarterhorse Drive at Fletchertown Road from June 10 to June 28. Quill Point and Quarterhorse Drives will be shut down at Fletchertown Road. More information can be found on the city’s website.
