Driver Dies In Brandywine Crash With Tractor-Trailer: Police

A driver died in Brandywine after colliding with a tractor-trailer, police said. The crash is still under investigation.

BRANDYWINE, MD — The Maryland State Police said a driver died Thursday in Brandywine after colliding with a tractor-trailer. Troopers identified the victim as 26-year-old Christopher Robin Barnes Jr. of Waldorf.

An incident report mentioned that Barnes was heading north on U.S. Route 301 in his Volkswagen Jetta around 4:30 a.m. Police explained that the driver tried to make a left turn onto Clymer Drive, but did not yield to a southbound tractor-trailer. The two vehicles then collided, the press release stated.

Medics pronounced Barnes dead on the scene, the write-up noted. Police added that the driver of the tractor-trailer stayed at the site of the crash.

Troopers informed that the highway was partially closed until about 9 a.m. because of the accident. State police indicated that they are still investigating.
