Honorable Richard Beddow Jr., 84, of Accokeek: Obituary

ACCOKEEK, MD — Richard Harold Beddow, 84, a retired administrative law judge from the National Labor Relations Board, died from complications of Parkinson’s Disease Jan. 1 at George Washington University hospital. He lived in Accokeek.

Beddow was born Jan. 3, 1932 in Springfield, MA. He was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of University of Massachusetts, 1953 and Boston College Law School, 1959. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He moved to Washington as an attorney for the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1959, became an ALJ at the ICC in 1973, and joined the NLRB in 1981. He retired in 2002. He greatly enjoyed his hobby of landscape gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Trudy Howells Beddow, two daughters, Cathy Almand (Dave), and Elissa Myers and grandchildren Travis and Lance Almand, and Alexander and Sofia Myers.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, January 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment with military honors on Tuesday, January 10 at 1 p.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America or National Parkinson Foundation.
