BOWIE, MD -- Island Fin Poké, a Florida-based chain of poké restaurants, recently opened its latest location in the Bowie Marketplace Shopping Center, according to a press release. Customers can enjoy Hawaiian-style poké bowls in a laid-back beach shack environment.
“We are extremely proud and excited to bring Island Fin Poké to Bowie and the surrounding communities,” said franchise owner Latasha Pennant, in the release.
A retired Coast Guard officer, she opened the restaurant with her husband Sean. The couple has committed to opening two Island Fin Poké restaurants in the area, with the Bowie Marketplace location at 15485 Annapolis Road opening first.

“This is our first family business and we chose this concept because it allows us to offer a fast, delicious and healthy food option," Latasha Pennant said. "It was important for us to open the first store in the community in which we live, and to date, we are the only standalone poké restaurant in Prince George's County.”
Latasha Pennant also has an M.Ed in School Counseling and hopes the business will proved to be a positive influence on students in the Bowie area. Not only are the couple's two daughters, one in seventh grade and the other in 11th, involved in the business, they've tried to hire local students to work in the restaurant.

“Community is everything to us,” Latasha Pennant said. “We are already looking at opportunities to give back and help others locally, I would love to partner up with a local behavior program or somewhere we can serve as role models for kids and invite them into our Ohana.”
