Maryland-Inspired Painting Project
Mother and Daughter Paint Black-eyed Susans on their Bowie Fence

Soon this plain, brown fence will be the prettiest in Bowie. Cindy Freland, Author, and her daughter, Alyssa Thomas, will paint a gorgeous Maryland-inspired mural including black-eyed Susans and a huge tiger swallowtail butterfly. The project started with Step 1 by room mate Jon Haas and Cindy cleaning the fence with a cleaning solution and brushes for several hours in the cold, unseasonable weather two weeks ago. Step 2 was buying the "Baked Cookie" primer and five colors, including bright yellow, gold, light and dark green, and black, paint at our local Sherwin-Williams store. Step 3 will be Cindy painting the primer on the fence on Friday, April 13. It requires only four hours to dry. I am sure the nice, very spring-like weather will encourage the drying. Step 4 will be Cindy and Alyssa doing the most fun part by painting the design on Saturday, April 14, starting around 12:30pm. It may be more difficult than I originally thought as the fence has slats, meaning it is not flat. So we will have to paint the top layer of slats and then go between each one to paint the second layer. We may end up spending several days on it. Watch for photos on Facebook under "Cindy Freland." Comments and suggestions are welcome. If you come to visit, watch us paint, and take photos, please park in the court and NOT on the road. The address is 12105 Whiston Ct, Bowie, MD.
