MD Boys Soccer Team Wins National Tournament

A local boys soccer team won a national tournament last weekend. This is the third Maryland squad to ever win the cup.

FRISCO, TEXAS — A Maryland youth soccer team won a national tournament Sunday in Texas. The Future Soccer Club Monarchs defeated the Football Club Dallas '03 Premier by a score of 2-1 to win the Dallas Cup. The under-18 boys team is the third Maryland squad to win the championship in its 42-year history.

The Future SC Monarchs feature players from Prince George's and Montgomery counties. Adeteye Gbadehan and Sterling Harris II scored the team's two goals.

The game took place at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, which is a suburb of Dallas. ESPN 3 aired the match nationwide.

Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks cheered the local team's victory.

Another Maryland team, the Baltimore Armour MLS NEXT, took home the boys under 17 title on the same day. That squad beat the Miami Rush Kendall Soccer Club 6-5 in a shootout.
