National Harbor Hosts First Large Convention Since Pandemic Onset
National Harbor will host its first large convention since the pandemic started. The event will bring nearly $1 million to the county.

OXON HILL, MD — This week, National Harbor will host the first large convention in Prince George's County since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The event will bring 2,000 attendees, 4,500 nights in hotel rooms and $940,000 in revenue to the county.
The conference is for the National Association of Counties, also known as NACo. The event will draw leaders from every state to discuss policymaking, public service and county government.
"We are proud of the National Association of Counties’ work to advocate for counties as we continue to respond to this pandemic and provide the critical services that residents are relying on," Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said in a May 11 press release announcing the news. "Because of these efforts many of us have been able to stand up programs to support small businesses, address food insecurity, provide rental assistance and so much more."

Hospitality leaders think the convention will be a breakthrough for local businesses. They also hope it signals a return of tourism.
"While destinations across America had to pivot during the pandemic, we are elated that our industry worked steadfast to be in a position to facilitate a meeting of this magnitude," stated Leslie W. Graves, president & CEO Experience Prince George’s. "It speaks volumes to the efforts of our county, and tourism and hospitality sector by the vigilance that was required to reach this mark."
