HYATTSVILLE, MD — Police shot a man armed with two knives to death on Thursday near the Mall at Prince George's, police say.

The shooting took place at the intersection of Toledo Road and Belcrest Road, and police recovered two knives — one of which appeared to be covered in blood — at the scene, police said during a media briefing.

Police say officers asked the man to drop the knives while urging pedestrians to stay away. Stun guns and pepper spray did not subdue him, and at one point he said that he "embraces death," police said. Police say three officers were involved in the shooting.

Video shared by WUSA 9 shows an individual on the ground in the middle of the intersection being tended to by emergency personnel.
