Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Route 50: Police
A woman was struck and killed while walking on Route 50 near Bowie, police said.
BOWIE, MD — Police said a pedestrian was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer on eastbound U.S. Route 50 early Tuesday morning near Bowie. Officers are withholding the victim's name until they notify her family. The incident report mentioned that the woman was from another state.
Officers explained that the accident happened around 3:30 a.m., east of the exit for U.S. Route 301. The victim was walking in the travel portion of the highway at the time of the collision, the write-up noted.
The woman died on the scene, the press release added. Police informed that the truck driver remained on site.

Troopers reported that they closed eastbound Route 50 for about 3.5 hours while they started the investigation, which is still ongoing. The Maryland State Police indicated that it has not filed any charges.
