Bowie, PG County Trick-Or-Treating Hours For Halloween 2019

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — October is here, and Halloween is just a few days away. This year, Halloween falls on a Thursday, so get on your costumes and get ready for some trick-or-treating.

While there are no official trick-or-treating hours in Prince George's County, authorities generally recommend sticking to a time frame of 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 (it is, after all, a school night).

In Bowie, suggested hours for trick or treating are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Bowie Police Department reminds trick-or-treaters and their parents to watch out for cars, carry a flashlight, and check all treats carefully. In addition, authorities also recommend the following for a safe trick-or-treating night:

• Check all treats to ensure they are sealed and do not have any foreign objects.
• Carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.
• Light up the house at night.
• If you have a security camera, make sure it’s pointed at the front door.
• Always check through your peephole before opening hte door.
• Use common sense.
• Bring your cell phone in case of an emergency.
• Young children, excited about the night of trick-or-treating, need to be supervised by a responsible adult.
• Do not walk on the street — stay on sidewalks and cross streets when safe at intersections and crosswalks.

So what is your favorite candy? A recent survey finds that preferences for Halloween candy vary widely depending on the state, although there were some common entries at the top of the list.

Online candy retailer CandyStore.com examined sales data recently to determine the favorite Halloween candies in the country, as well as in each state. They found that Skittles were the most popular nationwide, followed by Reese's Cups and then M&Ms. In Maryland, Milky Way was named the top Halloween candy, followed by Reese's Cups and Hershey Kisses.

No matter what candy you get or what costume you dress in, remember to stay safe and have fun this Halloween.
