Prince George's County Fair Saved By Last-Minute Funding: Report
The Prince George's County Fair reportedly wouldn't have happened this year were it not for some last-minute funding.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The Prince George's County Fair was saved this year thanks to some last-minute funding, according to a report.
WTOP reports that Prince George's County Fair President Debbie Herbert told a news outlet that the fair -- which will take place Sept. 5-8 -- was not able to get the funding it requested from the county, and that almost immediately officials contacted her to say that they would give the money to keep the fair going.
ABC 7's Brad Bell tweeted Aug. 15 that the fair would be cancelled after the PG County government denied funding. "Organizers say they need money by tomorrow," he wrote.

In a subsequent tweet, Bell reported that County Executive Angela Alsobrooks authorized funds for the fair.
The fair has been an annual tradition in Prince George's County since 1842. However, rainy days reportedly caused funding problems last year for the fair, and organizers knew it would be a fight this year to keep it going.

WTOP reports that Alsobrooks called the situation a miscommunication, and the county wasn't aware of the urgency of the situation.
