UPPER MARLBORO, MD — The Prince George's County Police Department has opened a new district station in Upper Marlboro.

PGPD recently had a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the District VIII police station, which is now fully operational with around 100 assigned officers.

District VIII represents the busiest sector in the county, covering 18 square miles and serving the neighborhoods of Suitland, Forestville, Westphalia, Coral Hills, and areas surrounding Capitol Heights and District Heights, according to a PGPD statement.

The District III station in Landover used to serve these communities, but this new station allows for more community engagement and faster response times, police say.

“Our investment in the new District VIII Police Station shows our commitment to community-oriented policing, ensuring that our Police Department is visible and accessible to the residents that they serve,” said Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in the statement. “This new station will allow us to continue the downward trend in crime across our County as we build an even more responsive, transparent and accountable Police Department.”
