School Board Member Resigns; Prince George’s Seeks Replacement

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Sandra Shephard resigned from the Prince George's County Board of Education on April 15, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced Thursday. Alsobrooks did not mention why Shephard is leaving the post.

“I would like to thank Mrs. Shephard for her dedicated service to our community these past two years,” Alsobrooks said in a press release. “She has been a committed advocate for our students, teachers and families, and we appreciate all that she has done for our school system in this position and through her work in our community.”

Alsobrooks is recruiting a replacement to fill the vacancy. She will accept applications until May 14.

Interested residents should send a resume and a cover letter to CountyExecutive@co.pg.md.us. Any Prince Georgian may apply. Unlike their elected colleagues, appointed members do not need to live in a specific school district.

State law requires the appointee to have "knowledge and expertise in education, higher education, business, finance, or successful administration of a business, nonprofit or government entity."

Shephard's successor will serve a four-year term.

The county school board has nine elected representatives, four appointed officials and one student board member.
