Six Flags America Shutting Down Major Roller Coaster

One roller coaster at the park in Prince George's County will permanently close next month.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD -- Six Flags America will permanently shut down the "Apocalypse: The Last Stand" roller coaster on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The stand-up roller coaster -- the only one in Maryland -- gave more than 1.6 million rides since it opened in 2012. It is set in a number of apocalyptic thematic elements, like a plane crash, explosions, and zombies.

“Our wheels are always turning when it comes to new and innovative thrills and attractions to bring to the park,” Park President Rick Howarth said in a statement. “The end is near but saying good-bye to Apocalypse will allow us to bring an all-new thrilling experience to our guests in 2019.”
