Veterans Day 2019: Ceremonies, What's Open, Closed In PG County
With Veterans Day falling on a Monday this year, here's what you can expect as far as openings and closings in our area.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Veterans Day is a unique holiday for a couple of reasons: 1) it's always on the same date and is therefore on a different day of the week every year, and 2) it's a borderline holiday in that some people get the day off and others don't.
Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day, is a federal holiday in the United States that is observed each Nov. 11 to honor veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. It differs from Memorial Day in that Veterans Day honors all who have served, while Memorial Day specifically honors those who died in military service.
This year, Veterans Day is on a Monday, so you may be wondering exactly what to expect in terms of openings and closures in our area, as well as any local ceremonies honoring veterans. Here's a breakdown from Prince George's County:

TheBus, under the administration of the Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT), will operate a regular route service on Monday, November 11, 2019, except for Route 51, which serves County government buildings. Regular service on Route 51 will resume on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. Also, the County’s Call-A-Bus service, including senior transportation services, will not operate on Monday, November 11, 2019. Regular operations resume on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
The Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE) will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2019. Regular business hours resume Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
In addition, Prince George’s CountyClick 3-1-1 will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2019, and will return to regular operations on Tuesday, November 12, 2019; 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. However, residents can still submit service/issue requests online at www.countyclick311.com/.
Metro: The Metrorail system will be open from 5 a.m. until 11:30 p.m., and trains will run on a Saturday schedule (every 12 minutes during daytime hours). Off-peak fares will be in effect, and parking is free at Metrorail parking facilities. Buses will also operate on a Saturday schedule, but some buses that typically run past midnight on Saturdays will not operate.
