Here's when you can expect Santa to be at the Mall at Prince George's this year.

HYATTSVILLE, MD — It's finally time for Santa Claus at the Mall at Prince George's.

Santa will be on hand throughout the rest of November and December up until Christmas Eve, when he'll have to head out to start delivering presents.

But until then, you can bring the kids to the mall where they can sit in his lap, tell him what they wish for, and even get a photo with him that will be cherished for years.

Sunday: 12-6 p.m. (Santa break: 2-2:30 p.m.)

Christmas Eve Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Note that the Santa line may close up to an hour prior to the posted break or closing time to accommodate those in line.

The tradition of Santa visiting shopping malls stretches back into the 1800s, and continues to be a popular tradition today.

Be prepared for lines when you bring your little one to the mall. Make sure to carve out a couple of hours so you won't feel rushed, and bring some snacks or toys to keep your child busy.

Some kids can be a little afraid of Santa at first, so put them at ease by allowing them to approach Santa at your own pace. And don't say things like, "don't worry, he's not going to hurt you," which may actually end up reinforcing that fear. Stay positive and walk right up to Santa while holding your child's hand to show there's nothing to fear.

Also, you can try allowing the child to watch other kids get their picture taken so he or she can see how much fun it is and become more comfortable with it.

That way, your child will have a good time, and you'll have a picture to cherish.
