What's Open, Closed In Bowie On July 4, 2020 Holiday Weekend
Because Independence Day falls on a Saturday, some government services in Bowie and Prince George's County will have changes the day before.
BOWIE, MD — Independence Day will be a little different this year as coronavirus cases continue to mount. Cancelling large events is the new norm, and that's no different in Bowie where the annual fireworks were canceled. The one thing locals can count on is a scheduled holiday.
Because July 4 is on Saturday, the holiday is observed on Friday, July 3. Many government services are already affected by coronavirus closures, but the holiday will only shake up their hours more. Here is what's opened and closed around the holiday:
Prince George's County government offices: County government offices will be closed on Friday and Saturday. A full list of when each county office will reopen is available at this link.

The latest health update says outdoor pools, which are listed here, have reopened by reservation only. Those pools will be open all weekend, but they will have limited hours on July 4.
Parks: All parks will be open for their normal Friday and Saturday hours. For the latest updates about what parks and recreation facilities have reopened, residents can call (301) 446-3222 for a full list.
Libraries: All branches of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System are still closed for coronavirus. The book drop will reopen on July 9 and curbside pickup will begin by appointment only on July 21.
Post offices: Post offices will be open on Friday but closed on Saturday.
Trash and recycling pickup: Recycling and trash operations will operate on a normal pickup schedule on Friday. No bulky pickups will be accepted, however.
Trash and recycling centers: Most landfills and recycling drop-offs are still only available for commercial use. The county's website shows which services are open to residents. A schedule of all trash and recycling operations is available here.
Buses: TheBus will not run Friday through Sunday. The Metrobus will operate on normal Friday and Saturday schedules.
Trains: The Metro will have normal hours on Friday. On Saturday, the Metro will open at 8 a.m. and run until about 9 p.m. Metro will determine the time of the last train based on how many people are leaving from Washington's fireworks display. The MARC train will operate on both Friday and Saturday. All MARC schedules are listed on its website.
