What's Open, Closed In PG County For MLK Jr. Day 2020
Find out what offices are closed and services are affected by Monday's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday observance.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. forever shaped the American landscape as the most prominent leader of the civil rights movement. The memory of King, who was killed by an assassin's bullet in 1968, is honored on Monday, Jan. 20 (he was born Jan. 15) with a federal holiday.
But just what is open and what is closed in our area on MLK Day? Here's a quick breakdown to help you out.
- All City of Bowie offices are closed in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. No trash or recycling will be collected.
- All City of College Park facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20.
- All City of Hyattsville offices are closed.
- All Laurel City and Passport Offices will be closed.
- City of Laurel Waste Collection: Monday trash and recycling collections will be on Tuesday, Jan. 21. All trash and recycling normally collected on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Collections on Wednesday-Friday will be unchanged.
- All Prince George's County offices and schools are closed on Monday, Jan. 20.
- Prince George's County Waste Collection: Organics collections, including food scraps and yard trim, will take place Monday, Jan. 20, but there will be no bulky trash pickups.
- U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Greenbelt is closed.
Prince George's County is celebrating the holiday with the first annual MLK Day of Service. Members of the public can participate in three community service activities to honor the memory of King.

- Youth Employment Seminar (ages 14-18): 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Community of Hope A.M.E. Church, 3801 Branch Ave., Temple Hills, MD. Located in the rear, lower level of Iverson Mall. Youth employment information includes on-the-spot interviews, hiring tips, SYEP program training, community service hours, and a special raffle and gift for students who complete the five seminar stations.
- Baby Items Donation Drive: 9 a.m.-3 p.m, at the Prince George's Child Resource Center, 9475 Lottsford Road, Largo, MD. New or gently-used items are needed for low income or homeless teens and women. Items needed include: baby strollers, car seats, baby bags, diapers/wipes, and coats (ages newborn to 4T).
- Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) MLK Day (ages 14-18): 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Buck Lodge Middle School, 2611 Buck Lodge Road, Adelphi, MD. Join us for a day of diversity and heritage. Free health screenings (ages 5-15), diverse workshops, arts and crafts, Sip'N'Paint, cultural performances, music, entertainment and more.
The City of Greenbelt will be hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at the Public Works Facility, 555 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD. Volunteers can join effort to protect native trees at Buddy Attick Park from beaver herbivory and invasive vines.
Prince George’s County Council Member At-Large Mel Franklin (D-Upper Marlboro) is sponsoring the 2nd Annual A Day On to Feed the Community, at Beltway Plaza Mall, 6000 Greenbelt Road, Greenbelt, in the TJ Maxx area, to provide free food assistance, including hundreds of frozen turkeys and fresh vegetables, to families in need in the region.
