#4 Notre Dame (Hingham) Lost To #2 Westwood In Girls Lax, 13-8

The defending South Sectional Champion Notre Dame ends the season in the loss in the 2021 South Sectional Final.

HINGHAM, MA- The #4 Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) faced the #2 Westwood Wolverines in the MIAA Division 1 Girls Lacrosse South Sectional Final. Notre Dame has beaten their cross-town rival the Hingham Harborwomen, Barnstable, and Scituate so far in the tournament. Westwood has defeated Weymouth, Needham, and Wellesley in the tournament.

In the first quarter, Notre Dame started 2-0 on goals by Aubrey McMahon and Kylie Wilson, and then Westwood went on a 5-0 run with goals by Lillian Hancock, Emma Ricci, Lindsey Diomede, and Ashley Mackin (2 times), in which made it 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Westwood extended its run to 6-0 when they scored the first goal of the quarter. Then Notre Dame struck back when Jane Hilasbeck and Kylee Wilson both scored for Notre Dame. Westwood however would score the last two goals of the quarter. Mackin scored the third goal of the game for Westwood in this quarter. At halftime, Westwood led 8-4 against Notre Dame.

In the third quarter, Mackin scored her fourth goal and Jane Gaffney scored a goal for Westwood while having outstanding defense against the Notre Dame offense. The score was 10-4 at the end of the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Aubrey McMahon scored two goals for Notre Dame while Mackin scored her fifth and Ava Connaughton scored for Westwood within the first four minutes of the quarter. Then Westwood closed out with a goal to win the South Sectional Championship, 13-6.

Westwood will be hosting the Central/West Champion Longmeadow on Monday at 6:30 p.m., Longmeadow won the sectional championship against Agawam on Friday. The winner of this game will face Franklin/Chelmsford in the Championship game.
