"The decision to cancel the July 4th events follows numerous meetings between each of the individual planning committees for the parade, Harborworks, and the road race, Hingham Police, Hingham Fire and the Hingham Downtown Association. I would also like to thank the Board of Health for keeping us informed of the latest information that helped in guiding our decision," Chief Olsson said. "I would mention that this was not an easy decision but we all feel it was the right one. The three organization will continue to collaborate and will be organizing a campaign to help give back to the town and citizens in a meaningful way. They are eager to keep the spirit alive for next year's 4th of July celebration."
