Hingham Police To Upgrade Purchase Of 7 Cruisers To Hybrid Models
Hingham selectmen unanimously approved a shift in the department's budget that will allow for the upgrade.
HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Police Department will upgrade the purchase of seven new Ford police cruisers to hybrid models after the board of selectmen approved a shift in the department's capital budget, reported The Patriot Ledger.
Hingham selectmen unanimously voted to move around $37,500 to allow for the upgrades proposed by Police Chief David Jones.
Jones said $24,000 was found by deferring the replacement of automated defibrillators, which can last another five years with some maintenance.

The department will also use $13,000 from upgrades initially planned for the evidence room to cover the cost of new equipment for the hybrid cruisers that cannot be repurposed from the old vehicles.
The difference in cost of the new hybrid cruisers will be paid for by potential fuel savings, said Jones.
