Hingham Selects Next Superintendent

The new superintendent was selected from three finalist and has four years of experience as a superintendent.

HINGHAM, MA — The school committee last Wednesday voted unanimously to select Paul Austin as the district's next superintendent.

The Waldo County, Maine superintendent will succeed Superintendent Dorothy Galo when she retires, following the 2018-2019 school year. Galo's last day is July 31 after serving 18 years as superintendent and 55 years in the school district.

Austin has served as Waldo County's superintendent since 2015. Prior to that, he was the director of student services for the Brunswick, Maine school department.

"Dr. Paul Austin stood out with his depth of experience, student-focused vision, collaborative leadership skills, and enthusiasm for creating a positive school environment for students, staff, and the community," The Hingham school committee said in a statement. "He expressed genuine interest in Hingham, the staff and students as demonstrated by his detailed research and responses throughout the search process. We are excited to welcome Dr. Austin into our community."

Austin was selected from three finalists, including Hingham assistant superintendent Jamie LaBilliois, New Hampshire superintendent for schools in Atkinson, Danville, Hampstead, Plaistow and Sandown, and himself. Those finalists visited the district's schools and met office staff, faculty, community members and students prior to the decision.
