Hingham Skier Last Minute Add To US Olympic Roster

Hingham's Alice Merryweather will be on the slopes at the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Hingham's Alice Merryweather didn't expect to be in South Korea for the Olympics but she'll be there competing for the U.S. following a last minute change.

The 21-year-old downhill skier was added to the team after fellow skier Steven Nyman injured his knee. A quota spot was given to Merryweather and her plans to return home were canceled.

“To think that you’re not going, then all of a sudden, the door is open,” coach Chip White told the USOC's Team USA website. “The elation that comes out of that from a 20 or 21-year-old is pretty exciting. It’s exciting for them because their whole world just opened up. They thought, ‘I have to wait another four years.’ To have that opportunity, that changes their whole world.”
