Hingham Storm Center: Inches Add Up as Blizzard Moves Through

10 a.m.

The National Weather Service does not have a snow total for Hingham, but puts Norwell at 17.8 inches. Twitter reports put the number anywhere from 12 to 18 inches. 

The NWS has a Blizzard Warning in effect in the Hingham area until 1 p.m. Wednesday and forecasts a chance of snow until 3 p.m., then a tapering off. Expect wind gusts as high as 31 miles per hour and wind chill dipping as low as -8 degrees.

8 a.m.
Hingham Public Library Director Dennis Corcoran said Wednesday morning that the library will attempt to open at 12 p.m.

But that "could change depending on progress with snow clean-up operations," Corcoran said in an email. "We advise readers to check www.hinghamlibrary.org for our status."

Tuesday, Jan. 21

8:54 p.m.
Hingham Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22 because of the storm, police said on Twitter Tuesday evening.

Town Hall is having a delayed opening at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

6:30 p.m.
Notre Dame Academy is closed Wednesday.

Whole Foods in Hingham is closing at 8 p.m. for "safety of our team members," grocer says on Twitter. Plans regular 8 a.m. opening Wednesday.

4:50 p.m.
Town Hall is now closing at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

4 p.m.
Town Hall is closing at 6 p.m. Tuesday and all evening meetings have been postponed. The list of affected meetings is on the town website.

Also, Hingham District Court will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22, HPD reports.

12 p.m.
Whites Bakery at the Derby Street Shoppes will be closed Wednesday because of the storm, according to the shoppes Twitter account.

Also, Barnes & Noble will close early Tuesday, at 6 p.m.

Hingham is expecting upwards of a foot of snow, depending on the forecast.

A blizzard watch was issued for parts of the South Shore, including Hingham, and Cape Cod by the National Weather Service.
