Hingham Students Score Higher Than Average on MCAS Test
In all grades and subjects, HIngham School District students scored higher than the state average on the MCAS test this year.
HINGHAM, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. In the Hingham School District, students in all grades scored better than the state average. The better-than-average scores were seen in all subjects.
In grades three through eight, 74 percent of Hingham students met or exceeded expectations in math, compared to the state average of 49 percent. And in English, 83 percent of those students met or exceeded expectations, compared to the 52-percent state average.
In science, 78 percent of Hingham's fifth- and eighth- graders at least met expectations, compared to the state average of 48 percent, according to the data released Tuesday.

Hingham's 10th-grade students also outdid state averages on the MCAS this year. Eighty-two percent of them met or exceeded expectations in math, whereas the state average was 59 percent. In English, 89 percent of Hingham's 10th-graders at least met expectations, while the state average was 61 percent. And in science, 94 percent showed proficiency, compared to the state average of 74 percent.
