Hingham Teacher Apologizes For Homophobic Tweet

Jon Rice is backtracking after posting an insensitive tweet about the Boston Red Sox's Pride Night.

HINGHAM, MA — A Hingham High School teacher says his tweet to the Red Sox about Pride Night included a poor choice of words that didn't covey the message he intended.

A June 7 tweet from physical education teacher Jon Rice recently emerged. In the post, responding to a video of a rainbow-colored Red Sox logo being placed on the pitcher's mound at Fenway Park for the event which was part of LGBTQ Pride month, he wrote, "No Necessary. Nothing to be proud of here Red Sox. We don't need rainbows on the pitchers mound.. what's next rainbow uniforms? Rainbow home plate? Rainbow monster?”

Rice has since deleted the tweet and made his Twitter profile private, but a screenshot was obtained by WFXT.
