Hull Fire Chief Vents Frustration On Facebook Over National Grid

In the now deleted post, Fire Chief Chris Russo said the lack of power in Hull was 100 percent on National Grid.

HULL, MA — Upset that you don't have power following a powerful nor'easter? Blame National Grid, according to the chief of the Hull Fire Department.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Chief Christopher Russo criticized the utility for their power woes and lack of work Saturday, writing that the lack of work Saturday was 100 percent on them.

"(National Grid) determined it was unsafe to continue to work at night my opinion is different," Russo wrote. "I will refrain from sharing my personal frustration on this incident but please know this, if I do nothing else in my career for this town it will be spent holding this company accountable to every single resident who is in the dark tonight."

He then encouraged residents to call National Grid every 15 seconds until the power came back on.

In a statement to WFXT, a National Grid spokesperson said a pair of transmission lines feeding Hull’s electric distribution system were damaged severely Friday night and it the high winds made it unsafe to be near the lines.

Russo said in a statement Sunday morning that his previous remarks were not directed at the workers but National Grid corporate officers.

I am fully aware of what their jobs are and the dangers that come with it and what they endure and have the utmost respect for all, of them and have personal friends that are in the field even today," Russo wrote.

National Grid has over 15 trucks, more than 50 workers, and a helicopter working to repair the line to Hull. Russo said he was told that the small peninsula should have power before dark.
