Local Hingham Student Supporting Cancer Prevention Event on 3/30

Local High School Student Supporting Cancer Prevention Event in Hingham

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) invites Massachusetts citizens to register for the first ever, Run for Prevention. The event will take place at Bare Cove Park in Hingham, MA, located along the banks of the Weymouth Back River and features USATF certified 5- or 10-mile runs, 2-mile fitness walk, and 1-mile kids fun run. Registration is $40 for the 10-mile run, $35 for the 5-mile run, $25 for walk participants and $10 for the kids fun run. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each competitive event.

Nick Capodilupo, a junior at Hingham High School, will be singing the National Anthem. Nick is a member of the high school chorus, drama club, Veterans’ Association, wrestling team, and the varsity football team. He has been performing the National Anthem at various events since he was a High School Freshman. Over the past 3 years, Nick has performed at many sporting events, playoff games, veterans’ events in Hingham, and various town events. For Nick, singing the Anthem is more than just singing a song. With every performance he pours his heart and soul into it. He feels that it’s important to stand for something. Whether it’s playing a game, running a race, or honoring our heroes, Nick looks to bring emotion to everyone there and understands there’s something bigger behind it. Recently Nick was nominated as the Massachusetts nominee for the National High School Heart of the Arts Award. They recognized him for his talent and commitment to the arts as well as his community involvement and bringing diverse groups of people together for a common good.

“It always warms my heart to see young people like Nick support MBCC’s focus on prevention. It is for them and with them that we strive to succeed in our goal toward cancer prevention for future generations,” says Cheryl Osimo, Executive Director. “For that we are grateful.”

About MBCC: In Massachusetts, breast cancer incidence rates are 12% higher than the national average, which estimates that 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Only 5-10% of breast cancers are associated with the high-risk BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is the only advocacy breast cancer non-profit working towards the prevention of environmental causes of the disease. This work is made possible through fundraising events like the Run for Prevention.
