Mass. Girl Badly Burned by Popular Kids Project
Homemade "slime," a DIY project for young children, left one girl with some bad injuries.

ROCKLAND, MA - A popular home project among kids left a young girl with badly burned hands, a Rockland mother told WCVB.
Siobhan Quinn said her daughter Kathleen was injured while making homemade "slime," a new trend among middle and elementary school students.
The problem, it seems, is prolonged exposure to one of the slime's main ingredients: Borax One. Other ingredients include Elmer's Glue and shaving cream, but it's the Borax which poses the danger.

Dr. Jason Hack from Rhode Island Hospital has stated that concern over the use of Borax in slime is not an issue.
“It’s a small amount of Borax,” Hack explained to Snopes, before news of the Rockland injury. “It’s not absorbed through the skin. It would take eating a lot of it to actually become toxic. The only one caveat is it’s not too pleasant if you get the dust in your eyes."

Kathleen is expected to make a full recovery.
