Public Presentation Of 3A Safety Improvement Plans In Town Of Hingham

Community members are invited to a presentation of design plans for safety improvements along the Route 3A, Rotary, and Summer Street corridor in Hingham via Zoom on Tuesday evening, December 8, 2020. The roadway project is over a decade in development and is scheduled for construction in 2025. With an initial town investment of $575,000 for engineering design plans, the project will be funded by the state and federal government at an estimated cost of $13 million dollars.

The bounds of the route 3A roadway project are from the intersection of Otis Street and Broad Cove Road to the intersection of George Washington Boulevard and Rockland Street. The Town of Hingham started discussions about safety improvements along this corridor in 2009 with a focus on redesign of the Hingham rotary. In 2015, Town Meeting voted affirmatively on a citizen’s petition to address the frequency of high injury accidents at Summer Street and Button Cove Road, resulting in the allocation of Town funds for engineering design plans. The project now figures into the Town’s 2030 Master Plan and a recent Massachusetts Area Planning Council grant for connectivity between Hingham Harbor and the downtown business district. The Town created the 3A Task Force to manage the project locally.

Design Consultants Inc., (DCI) has subcontracted with Pressley and Associates for landscape design services along the corridor including increased greenspace and environmentally sensitive plantings. Marion Pressley, Principal will participate in the public forum and provide drawings so the community may visualize the improved streetscape and public recreation areas.
