The new solar panel installations unveiled at Audi Norwell and Porsche Norwell will now produce approximately 50% of the annual electricity consumption in each car dealership. Part of Village Automotive Group, these new 274-kilowatt systems, built by MassAmerican Energy, will generate over 9 million kilowatt hours over the 25-year lifetime. Just shy of 700 solar panels, this move towards clean, renewable power helps to decrease the dealerships’ carbon footprints and also gives everyone yet another reason to smile when the sun is shining!
FireFlower Alternative Energy consulted on the ongoing project to ensure and maximize the long-term value of this alternative energy development. Village Automotive Group’s green initiatives have only been increasing, with both Audi and Porsche Norwell and Boston Volvo Cars solar panel systems currently generating power as well as another set in the works for Honda Village of Newton. On average, car dealerships use more energy per square foot than a typical office building. Through Village Automotive’s initiatives, the total yearly projected production for all four systems combined across the four dealerships is over 759,000kWh, which dramatically cuts down energy consumption.
