2 More Somerville Restaurants Going Into Winter 'Hibernation'
A growing number of area restaurants and bars have closed up shop for the winter.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Two more Somerville restaurants have announced that they will temporarily close over the winter, a practice that's come to be known in the food scene as "hibernating." Daddy Jones Bar said last month it will close from December to March for takeout but remain open for catering, holiday trays, meal kits and other "fun stuff."
"Mentally & financially we need to be able to go into patio season strong, excited and better," a statement on the restaurant's Instagram page reads. The Magoun Square eatery is known for its Greek fare and cocktails.
Spoke Wine Bar announced it will close for in-person dining after this week, continuing to offer gift baskets over the holidays.

"It is maddening to say, but it has come time for Spoke Wine Bar to hibernate for the winter," according to a statement on the Spoke Instagram page. Spoke, located in Davis Square, is expected to reopen in the spring as a "healthy, independent restaurant," the statement continued.
The restaurants are among a growing number of eateries that have closed up shop for the winter, aiming to reopen when the weather is nicer or a treatment for the coronavirus is widely available.
