Teen Hit By Gunfire In Somerville Shooting

A 16-year-old girl was in "critical but stable" condition after she was shot while walking her dog early Monday.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A teenage girl was struck by gunfire in Somerville early Monday. Police said shots were fired near the intersection of Jacques and Grant Streets around 1:35 a.m.

The victim, identified as a 16-year-old girl, was in "critical but stable" condition Monday, police said. Her father told WCVB she underwent "hours" of surgery.

The girl was shot while walking the dog with her boyfriend, the network reported. Investigators said shots were also fired into a nearby apartment while residents were sleeping.

"I'm furious about this. You should be too. Too many damn guns. Too much damn violence," Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone wrote on Twitter. "We're bringing every available resource to bear on stopping gunfire in our community. These are our neighborhoods and safety is not optional."
