SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville man tried to fight employees and customers of a Davis Square restaurant after he was asked to leave for bringing in outside alcohol, police said.

Adan Avalos, 40, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Police were called to Mike's Restaurant around 4:24 p.m. Friday for a report of a fight. They arrived to find Avalos "throwing punches at various people outside the main entrance to the restaurant," the police report stated.

Avalos backed away, knocking over a hand sanitizer display and lifting a granite top table to flip it over, police said. He put the table down and walked toward the officers, yelling and raising his hands "as if preparing to strike" one of them, police said.

One officer grabbed Avalos's wrist, and he pulled it away, refusing commands and continuing to swing his arms, police said. Other officers intervened and placed Avalos under arrest.

A witness told officers employees told Avalos to leave the restaurant, and he began yelling and "getting in the face of" staff members, police said. The witness intervened, and Avalos tried to hit him, he told police.

The restaurant manager said Avalos was asked to leave after he was found to be bringing in outside alcohol. Avalos began yelling and pushing furniture inside the restaurant, the manager told police.

The manager called the police and waited by the doorway until officers arrived.
