ICYMI: Woman Steals $250 Worth of Lingerie From Target, Gets Her Own Name Wrong, Say Police

Shonda R. Coleman, 20, of Cambridge, has been charged with larceny and issuing a false name to police.

According to Somerville Police, a 20-year-old Cambridge woman was caught stealing undergarments from Target, and proceeded to have an unusually difficult time giving accurate information about her identity.

The arrest report says Shonda R. Coleman was spotted at the 180 Somerville Ave. retail chain store arbitrarily grabbing items from the lingerie aisle and tossing them in her shopping carriage. Then she attempted to leave the store without paying for the items - which totaled more than $250 - and was stopped by the loss prevention officer.

Upon police’s arrival, she told them her name was Tiana Goode, and claimed to be both 17 and 18 years old at different points in the conversation, say police. The registry of motor vehicles database did not confirm her identity. She also told police that her mother works at a Macy’s in the Watertown Mall, which officers found to be a non-existent store.

After her arrest and booking at the station, police confronted Coleman about her inconsistent statements. She explained that Tiana Goode is the name she usually goes by, though not her legal name. None the less, Coleman was charged with larceny of more than $250 and furnishing a false name.
