MA Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain, T-Storms Possible Wednesday

This lovely day may be marred by pockets of rain and thunderstorms.

It looks beautiful out this morning, and for a large portion of the day could remain so. But rainy events ranging from scattered showers to possibly strong thunderstorms threaten to pop up in different parts of the state Wednesday. The initial forecast called for much of the rain to fall from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. with brief heavy rainfall, though Wednesday morning's forecast from the National Weather Service seemed tamer.

Much of the day's showers will be south of the Pike, the NWS said. Eastern Mass., particularly north of Boston, will stay out of the clouds the longest today. Still, on-and-off showers with potentially heavy bursts are possible, especially in the early afternoon, according to Weather.com.

The thunderstorms should stay out west of Worcester, but they could be strong ones with heavy gusts of wind. The time to watch out there is from 7 p.m. - midnight.

The good news? Temperatures are expected to ease into the mid-to-high 70s today for much of the state (a little cooler in the Cape.) However, those warmer temps and rainfall will combine for stickier weather.

Below is the Wednesday forecast for greater Boston, according to the National Weather Service:
