MA Weather: Timeline Of Friday's Rain

It'll likely be an icky one out there today, no matter where you are in the state. Previous forecasts from the National Weather Service called for 2-3 inches of rain with up to 4 inches possible in central and western Massachusetts.

The NWS said central Massachusetts saw freezing rain and sleet Friday morning, which caused some travel issues. Rising temps should improve road conditions by 10 a.m., according to the NWS.

While we'll enjoy near-record highs Friday, the rain is here to stay. Forecasts are calling for highs in the mid-50s, with a 100 percent chance of rain until about 9 p.m. That is expected to give way to clear skies over the weekend before the wet weather returns in time for New Year's Eve.

Here's what to expect through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service:

Today

Rain. Patchy fog. High near 53. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight

A chance of rain before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers between 9pm and 10pm. Patchy fog between 10pm and midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday

Mostly sunny, with a temperature rising to near 48 by 8am, then falling to around 40 during the remainder of the day. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph.

Sunday

Sunny, with a high near 33. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Sunday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 27. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
