MA Wet Weather Forecast: Rainfall Totals, Flood Advisory

It's been a dreary Marathon Monday. Here's what to expect heading into the evening.

BOSTON, MA – Boston Marathon runners and spectators had to brave cold, windy and slippery conditions throughout Monday, and it doesn't show signs of letting up. The National Weather Service says moderate to heavy rain will persist through Massachusetts until as late as 8 p.m., offering no reprieve to those still trudging toward the Boylston Street finish line.

Highs are expected to be in the low 50s this afternoon into this evening, with lows bottoming out around 41 degrees. But it won't feel that way, as the forecast is calling for winds between 15-25 miles miles per hour for until 8 p.m. Gusts could reach as high as 45 mph in some parts of the state, according to the NWS.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Worcester metro area, which has seen the brunt of the rainfall Monday. Total rainfall for metro Boston clocked in at less than an inch, while folks farther west saw totals of 1.1 and 1.36 inches. Those totals were expected to get to 2 inches.

Around 4 p.m., the NWS also issued a flood advisory for the southern Massachusetts coast. Minor coastal flooding is possible on vulnerable shore roads and in basements due to the height of the tide or splash-over from waves.

Flooding also appears to be hitting greater Boston. The Newton Fire Department reported flooding at one intersection that made it impassible.
