Man Assaulted Somerville Cop After Restaurant Ruckus: Police
A man trying to fight people inside a Broadway restaurant pushed a responding officer after refusing commands to back up, police said.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville police officer was shoved while responding to a disturbance at a Broadway restaurant Sunday, police said. Victor Moya, 38, of Everett, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct.
The officer responded to reports of a fight at the restaurant. Moya, who was in an "agitated state," was trying to fight customers inside, police said. Officers began escorting him from the restaurant, but he turned around and began to walk toward them "aggressively," according to the police report.
"I was forced to push Mr. Moya back two times while telling him to back up as he continued to advance towards me aggressively," the officer wrote in the report. "Mr. Moya stated that he was a big guy and smiled as he charged towards us. He continued to mumble, and I was unable to distinguish what he was saying."

Moya advanced again, moving past the officer's outstretched arm and forcefully pushing the officer backward with his chest. The officer pulled Moya to the ground, where multiple nips of alcohol spilled out of his sweatshirt and onto the sidewalk, according to the police report.
Once handcuffed, Moya tried to escape and tried to break the cuffs, police said.
