Miss Senior Massachusetts Brightens Lives

A former Miss Senior Massachusetts who spends her time brightening the lives of seniors lives right here in Somerville. Learn more on SNN.

Somerville resident Fran Owens has been crowned Miss Senior Massachusetts, danced at nightclubs, and crooned for big shots and high rollers for decades. Today, she attends “Senior America” events and sings for seniors at senior centers, hospitals… wherever and whenever she can.

“Part of this whole Senior America world is to give something back,” Owens tells filmmaker and SCATV staff member Ben Morrow in an excerpt from a documentary he’s preparing, an excerpt of which aired on Somerville Neighborhood News. “Now that you’re getting ready to retire, and you’re going to have your sixties, your seventies, your eighties… we even have a queen that’s 95, and she’s still dancing and just looks wonderful and loves her life.”

“I’m 71. I’m at a wonderful point where Senior America and all the ladies, all over the country, are fabulous,” she said.
